Jamshedpur, Nov 8: Residents of Vijaya Gardens under Birsanagar police station area lstaged a protest on Saturday, locking Gate No. 2 after police failed to make any arrests 48 hours after a burglary involving jewellery and cash worth around Rs 60 lakh from the house of Jyoti Singh on November 6.

Agitated residents alleged that the colony’s security system has completely collapsed.

Security guards are negligent, and several CCTV cameras inside the colony have been non-functional for months.

Cameras on the floor where the burglary took place were also shut. Although a private CCTV camera captured images of two suspects, police have yet to trace them.

Residents said the colony management remained indifferent even after repeated complaints.

They added that a year ago, six flats in Vijaya Gardens were targeted in similar thefts, yet no improvements were made in security.

Instead, the management reportedly said that any demand for additional security would require extra payment from the residents. This has left people feeling unsafe.

Angry residents locked Gate No. 2 and warned that if security measures are not strengthened immediately and thefts curbed, they would shut other gates indefinitely as well.

On getting information, Birsanagar police reached the spot and pacified the protestors.

Police assured that a joint meeting with the colony management and residents will soon be held to reinforce security arrangements.
