Jamshedpur, Sept. 04 : Bringing much relief for the commuters the repair work on 4 km stretch of NH-33 between Dimna Roundabout and Pardih (both passing through Jamshedpur) started on Tuesday.
East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Amit Kumar had on on Monday ordered the state road construction department (RCD) executive engineer Sanjay Singh to ensure immediate filling of pothole on the stretch passing through Jamshedpur in view of regular complaints by residents.
� We acted following regular complaints. Commuting on the road due to big potholes on NH-33 stretch between densely populated Pardih and Dimna Roundabout had become difficult and the RCD was asked to ensure that the stretch is made at least motorable during the rainy season by filling the potholes,� said Amit Kumar.
The RCD executive engineer got in touch with National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) authorities for immediate start of the pothole filling work on NH-33.
�Though we cannot undertake repair work on NH-33 and we conveyed the deputy commissioner�s message for starting the pothole filling work immediately to the NHAI project director. The work began today and will be completed within a week,� said an official.
�We have asked a private firm to complete the potholes filling work between Dimna and Pardih on priority basis. Thereafter, similar potholes will be filled, wherever they are found between Ghatshila and Chandil,� said an official of NHAI.
The NHAI senior official said that the tender of Rs 17-crore for repair of entire stretch of 138-km NH-33 stretch would be finalised by September 20 and work would commence soon after monsoon.
�NH 33 that connects the city with the rest of the country is slowly becoming accident zone. With the onset of monsoon several mishaps have been reported. The people are facing problems due to poor condition of the highway. The road should be repaired as soon as possible. The stretch is commercial very important and is also used by general masses to ply between Ranchi to Jamshedpur and is the connecting link between Jharkhand to Odisha and Bengal. State government must take up repair works as there has been several mishaps on this stretch due to poor condition of road,� noted local resident.
