Chaibasa, May 4: West Singhbhum deputy commissioner Dr Shantanu Kumar Agrahari on Thursday chaired a disaster management meeting where SP Anish Gupta was also present.
Taking stock of the situation, DC said that people of the district are mostly relying on tube well for drinking water in the scorching summer were the temperature is hovering around 40 degrees. Total of 23 thousand hands pumps are available in the district of which 7000 are defunct.
DC asked the sanitation and drinking water department to fix those defunct hands pump after gathering the accurate information from the remote area and also asked them to sketch a micro plan to implement the work.
DC directed all the BDOs to hold a meeting with Mukhiyas and Jalsahiya on 5th May in order to enlist and repair the defunct hand pump located in Tola, Aganbari, health centers and schools .
DC further ordered the authorities of PHED department to ensure repair of hand pumps led by Nodal officer and Junior engineers of PHED in group of 11 person from Chaibasa and 11 person from Chakradharpur.
DC also mentioned that if any mukhiya remains absent in the meeting then the concerned authorities should take up the duty against the unwilling Mukhiya and in the light of unwillingness of mukhiyas action should be taken.
DC further said that PHED department should ensure the repair of all the hands pump within a week. The repair work would be conducted between 6 am and 7 pm. All the contractor and JE should work sincerely to prevent the up-coming disaster or else all the EE would ensure to take appropriate action according to law.
The report of natural calamity should be submitted by the circle officer within two days to SDOs and thereafter it should be submitted to district within the next two days.
Two police personnel would be trained in summer disaster management from each Police Station at health centers to check any untoward heat incident.
