Ranchi, April 24: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has brought some much-needed relief for residents of Jharkhand as temperatures are expected to drop significantly in the coming days. According to the Ranchi-based Meteorological Centre, the maximum temperature across the state is set to fall by approximately 6 degrees Celsius after the next three days.
Abhishek Anand, head of the Meteorological Centre, informed on Thursday, April 24, that while no major change in temperature was expected immediately, a noticeable dip in mercury levels was likely after a four-day period. This development promised respite from the persistent heatwave conditions that had gripped the state.
However, residents will have to endure the prevailing heat for at least another 24 hours. The weather was expected to remain dry on Friday, April 25, with no signs of immediate relief. The IMD has forecast hot and humid conditions for parts of southern and north-eastern Jharkhand, prompting a yellow alert for several districts.
The districts under alert include East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, Saraikela-Kharsawan, and Simdega in the southern region, as well as Deoghar, Dumka, Jamtara, Godda, Pakur, Sahibganj, Giridih, Bokaro, and Dhanbad in the north-eastern part of the state.
In Ranchi, the capital city, the weather was expected to remain dry with mainly clear skies. The maximum temperature on Friday was likely to reach 39 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature may hover around 23 degrees Celsius.
Across Jharkhand, temperature extremes were recorded over the last 24 hours. Daltonganj witnessed the highest temperature at a scorching 43 degrees Celsius, while Gumla experienced the lowest minimum temperature at 15.2 degrees Celsius.
The Meteorological Department urged residents, especially those in alert zones, to take necessary precautions against heat-related health issues and to stay hydrated. While the forecast indicates continued discomfort in the immediate term, the upcoming dip in temperature was expected to provide much-needed comfort to the people of Jharkhand.
