Relaying of 4 crore synthetic track starts at JRD Complex

Jamshedpur, August 21: JRD Tata Sports Complex is getting a makeover of its sprint track. The old track is being replaced by a new synthetic track.

The laying down of the track began on Thursday after a brief inaugural ceremony headed over by Tata Steel MD T.V. Narendran. The track laying costs about 4 crores.

The original track costs over 4.4 crores but the state govt. relaxed the custom duties and price was eased by 0.4 crores. The procedure is scheduled to be completed by September 18, 2015.

The track has been made up of a material called ‘polyurethene’. This material is being used for the first time at the sports complex.

The track is being laid down by coordination of two companies Advanced Development Sports of Delhi and STI Group of Malayasia. The new track will be constructed in 3 layers to provide tensile strength to the track and enable it to last for many years.

The materials used for the track have been imported from several countries-glue from USA, ABR rubber & EPDM from Germany and PU from Portugal. At the event a large number of officials from Tata Steel, Sports authorities and athletes were present.

Tata Steel MD T.V.Narendran, VP Sunil Bhaskaran, Athletics Federation of India official Devdas, TWU president R. Ravi Prasad, General Secretary BK Dinda, Bailey Bodhanwala, Head Sports Charles Boromeo and Bagicha Singh were spotted. Narendran while addressing the audience said, “The main motive behind the relaying of synthetic track is to make sporting facilities world class so that we can host National and International events in the future”.

Sports have always been an important part of Tata Steel and we have some of eminent sports persons working with us, said Narendran adding when we have a sports complex named after JRD the track in the stadium should also be world class. We are hopeful of conducting stepathlon – a virtual race designed to create a global health revolution among corporate professionals – on September 2.

MD further said, “We at Tata Steel take health very seriously and the new facility will help keep the employees and citizens of Jamshedpur fit and he urged the people to make good use of the synthetic track once laid”.
