Jamshedpur, Oct 11: The long-awaited integrated redevelopment of Tatanagar Railway Station officially commenced on Saturday.

The landmark project was inaugurated with a ceremonial Bhoomi Poojan jointly performed by South Eastern Railway (SER) General Manager Anil Kumar Mishra, Member of Parliament Bidyut Baran Mahato, and DRM of Chakradharpur Rail Division Tarun Huriya.

The ambitious redevelopment, estimated at  Rs 284 crore, is slated for completion within 36 months.

Addressing the gathering, GM Anil Kumar Mishra stated that the station’s revamp is being meticulously planned to cater to the demands of the next 50 years.

The project includes the construction of four new platforms, increasing the total from five to nine.

For  enhancing passenger convenience, the station will feature 16 lifts and 14 escalators.

The circulating area will expand from 8,000 sq. meters to 35,000 sq. meters, while the parking space will grow from 8,000 sq. meters to 41,000 sq. meters.

Under the redevelopment plan, Tatanagar will boast a G+6 main entry building and a G+3 second entry building, housing a commercial complex, gaming zone, multiplex, and modern shopping facilities.

The station is set to emerge as a state-of-the-art, passenger-centric hub.

MP Bidyut Baran Mahato remarked that the station will be elevated from an ‘A’ category to an ‘A Plus’ category post-redevelopment.

Besides its aesthetic and modern appeal, the station will accommodate an increased number of trains.

He emphasized discussions with the Union railway minister and Railway Board regarding the construction of the hanging road overbridge, along with the joint efforts of the state government and Railways for the Barigora and Govindpur road overbridges.

Mahato added that the construction of the third and fourth rail lines will address train delays, and proposed that Govindpur station be developed akin to Adityapur, and Kudada Station along the Badampahar line, positioning them as satellite stations to handle Tatanagar’s growing rail traffic in the future.

In the next three years, Tatanagar Railway Station is poised to undergo a complete transformation, offering passengers world-class amenities and setting a benchmark for modern railway infrastructure in India.
