Jamshedpur: Rabindra Kumar Behera, Founder and Chairman of RSB Group, said that the recognition conferred by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, will inspire him to continue working for the greater good of society and contribute towards a sustainable future. Behera was awarded the Doctor of Philosophy (Honoris Causa) in recognition of his outstanding contributions to industry, entrepreneurship, and nation-building at the 15th annual convocation of the National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur. The honour was presented by President Droupadi Murmu.
Expressing gratitude after receiving the award, Behera termed the moment as emotional and humbling. He recalled his long association with NIT Jamshedpur, formerly the Regional Institute of Technology, from where he graduated 52 years ago. He said the institution played a decisive role in shaping his professional journey and instilling strong values that guided him throughout his career.
“I owe everything to my parents and my alma mater for instilling confidence, discipline, and a sense of responsibility towards society. This recognition also comes with greater responsibility. We must be more caring towards society and work collectively for a sustainable world,” Behera said.
Reflecting on the journey of RSB Group, he said that along with his brother and Vice Chairman S K Behera, the organisation was built from scratch. Over the years, the group has grown into a global automotive component major with 18 manufacturing plants across the world, including two units in Mexico. He said the growth of the company stands as an example of perseverance, innovation, and commitment to quality.
Behera underlined that corporate social responsibility and sustainability will remain core focus areas for the group. He said RSB Group has undertaken several initiatives aimed at social welfare, including the development of five anganwadi centres in Jharkhand and focused efforts towards women’s empowerment. The group has also adopted a village in Pune to support holistic development through education, health, and livelihood initiatives.
Highlighting the importance of environmental responsibility, Behera said the company is increasingly focusing on renewable energy and climate-conscious practices. “Climate change is a reality, and we need to care for our planet. Industry must play a proactive role in promoting renewable energy and sustainable practices,” he added.
The honour bestowed on Behera has been widely welcomed by industry leaders and the academic fraternity, who see it as recognition not only of his entrepreneurial success but also of his sustained commitment to social development and nation-building.
