Ratan Tata inaugurates up-gradation of MTMH as Jharkhand�s first comprehensive cancer care centre

Jamshedpur: Tata Trusts Chairman Ratan Tata today inaugurated the up-gradation of Meherbai Tata Memorial Hospital (MTMH) as the first comprehensive cancer care centre of Jharkhand.
Tata Trusts is supporting MTMH, a trust hospital catering to cancer patients, to upgrade itself to the first comprehensive cancer care hospital of Jharkhand. This is part of Tata Trust�s comprehensive cancer program for Jharkhand.
A second state-of-the-art Linear Accelerator will be installed to deal with the increasing patient load. The first PET-CT machine of Jharkhand will be operational by July this year.
A new brachytherapy unit will replace the existing one.
The 72-bedded hospital will expand to become 130-bedded. A palliative care unit will be added. A separate day care chemotherapy ward, medical oncology and radiation oncology ward will be built. All wards be air-conditioned and will be equipped with the latest medical equipment. A new OPD complex will replace the existing one.
There will be synergy with TMH, with surgical oncology and medical oncology services offered at TMH and radiation oncology at MTMH.
The project will be executed over a period of 10 months, sources said.
