Mob lynches convicted gangster Ratan Lohar in Adityapur

Jamshedur: A crowd comprising over 150 residents of Adityapur lynched Ratan Lohar, a convicted criminal out on parole some 18 months ago, on Friday.

The mob killed Lohar in flat no 8 of W Type Colony around 3.30 pm where the latter had taken shelter after running away from the people. Local residents ransacked Lohar�s car in Ram Maraiyya Basti and severely beat up the gangster who was accused of running many illegal activities in Adityapur police station area.

According to police, local residents saw Ratan Lohar, convicted in a rape case and accused of raping seven women including a widow in his locality, in a Scorpio car in the afternoon while entering Ram Maraiyya Basti. When several local residents opposed Lohar�s entry into the locality, the latter allegedly opened fire at the crowd. Soon a mob gathered on the spot and attacked Lohar. It overturned his car and vandalized it in a fit of rage.

In the meantime, Ratan Lohar ran away from the scene to save his life. But, the mob followed him to a W Type flat and beat him up to death. The colonists followed him to W Type-type located near Ram Maradiya Basti.

On getting tip-off about the lynching, Adityapur police reached the scene and sent Lohar�s body to the government hospital for autopsy. SDO Sandeep Kumar and SDPO Avinash Kumar also reached the crime scene and conducted an inquiry into the incident. They said an investigation was on into the incident and that those accused of lynching Lohar would be booked.

�Lohar had committed heinous crimes. He was an accused in several major cases. Despite this he was beyond the reach of police for a long time. He had committed atrocities against several women of Ram Maraiyya Basti� said a local resident.
Sources said police officials are probing conspiracy angle in Lohar�s killing. Lohar was accused of raping a widow and six other women of the locality in the year 2012. Many people of the locality had deposed in the court against him. Lohar was convicted in May 2012, sources said.

Sources said Lohar was accused of running many illegal activities in the basti such as coal theft, gambling and selling illicit liquor. Formerly, also a member of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Lohar was ousted from the party in 2012 due to his illegal activities. Lohar�s second wife Munni was shot dead in Adityapur Muslim Basti for supremacy over the illegal coal theft activities.
