Jamshedpur: Five schoolgirls were seriously injured in a road accident near the church under Sitaramdera police station jurisdiction of Jamshedpur on Wednesday. The students, all from Bhalubasa Adivasi Jan Kalyan High School, were hit by a speeding bike while crossing the road.
The injured students have been identified as Ashtami Kumari, Shanu Kumari, Rashmi Kumari, Surabhi Kumari, and Khushi Kumari. Local residents immediately rushed all the injured to MGM Hospital, where doctors confirmed that the condition of two students is critical, while the remaining three are out of danger.
Among the injured are Priya Kumari, a Class 8 student, and Ashtami Kumari, a Class 11 student from Gwala Basti. Shalu Kumari, another Class 8 student, lives in Birsanagar Zone No. 8, while Rashmi Kumari, a Class 11 student from Babudih Gwala Basti, suffered serious injuries, including fractures in one hand and leg. Other students sustained injuries to the head, arms, and legs.

According to eyewitnesses, a Class 9 student of Bhalubasa Adivasi Jan Kalyan High School was riding the bike rashly with a youth as a pillion rider. The collision was so severe that all the girls were thrown onto the road.
The incident has sparked anger among local residents, who blame frequent accidents in the area on speeding vehicles and reckless driving. They allege that despite repeated incidents, no concrete steps have been taken by the administration to improve road safety.

Police from Sitaramdera station arrived at the spot and launched an investigation. One of the accused fled the scene after the incident, but the student riding the bike has been taken into custody for questioning.
Parents of the injured students, along with school staff, rushed to the hospital upon hearing the news. Manoranjan Ravidas, father of Shalu Kumari, recounted the incident. “My daughter left for school as usual. After getting off the auto at Agrico, she was walking with her friends when a bike hit her. As soon as I received the information, I left work and rushed to the hospital,” he said.

Currently, all the injured students are undergoing treatment at MGM Hospital. Meanwhile, local residents have urged authorities to take immediate steps to prevent further accidents in the area.
