Seraikela: In a captivating incident at Dhobasai in Seraikela, a vibrant blue bird, unfamiliar to the region, was discovered entangled in the bushes near a pond. The avian spectacle drew the attention of locals engaged in their morning routines, forming a curious crowd around the trapped creature.
Promptly notified via mobile, snake catcher, bird enthusiast, and nature lover Raja Barik swiftly arrived at the scene. With a deft and secure rescue operation, Barik extricated the blue-feathered visitor from its leafy predicament. Subsequently, the local forest department was alerted to the unusual sighting.
A series of activities unfolded as photographs of the rescued bird were taken, and internet searches commenced to identify the species. The bird, determined to be a Swamphen, had seemingly traversed thousands of kilometers, possibly from Australia or France, to arrive in Seraikela. Speculation arose that it might have become ensnared in the bushes during its passage through the area.
Belonging to the Rallidae family, the Swamphen, also known as the mud hen in India, became the center of attention. Raja Barik, acting under the guidance of the Forest Department, transported the bird to Sitarampur Dam, its presumed safe haven, and released it back into its natural habitat.
The Forest Department revealed that migratory birds of this kind had been observed in both Sitarampur Dams. Stirring the interest of the locals, the incident prompted discussions about the potential influx of more migratory birds to Seraikela if conducive environments and resources were provided. The lush greenery and abundant water sources in the district could foster a new haven for bird enthusiasts and open up possibilities for diverse avian guests in the future.
