Seraikela: Nestled amidst imposing rocks and natural shades on the banks of the Sanjay River between Murup and Govindpur villages in the Seraikela block lies the divine Shaktipeeth of Mata Thakurani Devi. Local residents are fervently urging the concerned authorities and public representatives to elevate this sacred site into a thriving tourist destination.
Hemsagar Pradhan, a dedicated local social worker, highlighted the potential for the Shaktipeeth’s development into a tourist attraction. He emphasized that such a transformation could significantly contribute to the area’s development, offering employment opportunities to the local population. Pradhan shared unique insights into Thakurani Shaktipeeth, noting that the Sanjay River flowing through it never experiences dry spells, even when larger rivers cease to flow during the summer. A particular feature, known locally as “Thakurani Darh,” houses a reservoir of perennially pure water.
According to Pradhan, the Shaktipeeth is a place of worship for Naya Shukra Sardar and others, drawing thousands of devotees annually, especially on Makar Sankranti. On January 14, devotees flock to “Thakurani Darh” to take a holy dip, expressing their faith and seeking blessings for happiness, peace, and prosperity for themselves and their families.
Chief priest Shukra Sardar assured that the traditional Makar Puja would be conducted in the Mata Thakurani Devi Shaktipeeth on January 14. He emphasized that sincere worship in the Shaktipeeth fulfills the heartfelt wishes of devotees. To enhance the spiritual experience, “Jai Maa Thakurani Seva Samiti” is prepared to serve devotees with free offerings such as kheer, khichdi, tea, and more.
The Shaktipeeth is easily accessible by rail, with Mahalimorup railway station providing convenient access via Murup village. For those traveling by road, Seraikela on the Kharsawan road via Govindpur village offers a straightforward route to the sacred court of Mata Thakurani Devi. The local community envisions that transforming this divine site into a tourist destination will not only preserve its sanctity but also enrich the region’s cultural and economic landscape.
