Ranchi’s Rajib Banerjee and Jamshedpur’s Deepmala Win Top Honours at 6th Jharkhand State Chess Championship of the Deaf

Jamshedpur, Sept 14: The 6th Jharkhand State Chess Championship of the Deaf, organized by the Jharkhand Sports Council of the Deaf, concluded on Sunday at the Tata Steel Chess Training Centre, JRD Tata Sports Complex, Jamshedpur. The two-day tournament, held on September 13 and 14, witnessed intense competition as 37 players from across the state showcased their skills.

In the Open Section, Rajib Banerjee of Ranchi emerged as the champion, scoring 6.5 points out of 7 rounds. Sandeep Kumar of Ranchi secured second place with 6 points, while Ashok Kumar Singh claimed the third position with 5.5 points. In the Women’s Section, Deepmala of Jamshedpur took the top spot with 3 points out of 3 rounds. She was followed by Ruksar of Jamshedpur, who stood second with 2 points, and Naziya Bano of Jamshedpur, who finished third with 1 point.

The prize distribution ceremony was held on Sunday, with Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy as the chief guest. He presented the prizes to the winners and praised the participants for their determination and talent. Other dignitaries present included Kavita Kumari, General Manager of SBI, Samiran Lal, Vice Chairman of Jharkhand Sports Council of the Deaf, and Manish Kumar Singh, Secretary of the Council. IA Jayant Kumar Bhuyan was the tournamnet director and guest of honour. IA Chandan Kumar Prasad served as the Chief Arbiter cum guest of honour.

The Arbiter team included SNA Shubhangi Verma and Manoj Kr. Pandey, ensuring smooth conduct of the matches. The championship concluded with appreciation for the players’ dedication and the organizers’ efforts in promoting chess among the differently-abled.
