Ranchi (IANS) — Jharkhand Police have busted a high-tech exam hacking racket, arresting a candidate, an invigilator, a test centre superintendent, and an IT staffer for allegedly rigging the SSC GD Constable Examination-2026 in Ranchi.
Investigators revealed that the suspects used internet-based IP connections to remotely access the examination centre’s computer systems and solve the online question papers for a fee. The syndicate allegedly charged desperate candidates between ₹6 lakh and ₹10 lakh to guarantee a passing score.
The scheme unravelled on May 21 when the Senior Superintendent of Police received a tip-off about an active cyber-breach during the online exam at the Genius Institute of Technology, located within the Tatisilwai police station limits.
Officials immediately formed a special investigation team, supervised by the Superintendent of Police (Rural) and led by Deputy Superintendent Amar Kumar Pandey, to raid the venue.
During the operation, investigators discovered that an invigilator ordered a restart of a candidate’s computer in Lab-1 just moments before the exam began. This manoeuvre raised red flags, and preliminary forensics quickly confirmed that outside handlers were using screen-mirroring software to hijack the terminal.
Under interrogation, candidate Mrityunjay Kumar Yadav and invigilator Sanjeet Kumar confessed to the plot. They implicated centre superintendent Vikas Kumar and IT staffer Munna Raj, who were actively operating computers from a house directly opposite the exam hall to control the online system. Police moved in and arrested both tech handlers on the spot.
Seized Contraband & Evidence
- Central processing units (CPUs) and laptops
- High-speed broadband devices and mobile phones
- Blank bank cheques and original educational certificates (used as collateral)
The investigation has exposed a cross-border criminal operation, as middlemen based in neighbouring Bihar allegedly “fixed” candidates for the racket. The network routinely confiscated the original academic certificates of applicants as collateral to secure ultimate payment post-results.
The arrested individuals include candidate Mrityunjay Kumar Yadav (Siwan), invigilator Sanjeet Kumar and centre superintendent Vikas Kumar (both from Nalanda), and IT staffer Munna Raj (Patna).
Tatisilwai police have registered a criminal case under the stringent provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024. Authorities confirmed that further raids are underway to dismantle the rest of the organized criminal network.
