Jamshedpur, June 14: The birthday of Dr Karl Landsteiner, considered as the “Father of Blood Transfusion,” is observed throughout the world as International Blood Donors’ Day.
The day falls on June 14.
The Voluntary Blood Donors Association (VBDA), Jharkhand, celebrated the day in its unique way of mass mobilization. VBDA held an Awareness Rally for promoting Safe Blood Donation right from Sakchi roundabout.
The colorful rally with festoons, banners and placards, participated by school students and dignified citizens, was flagged off by Baily Bodhanwala, the chairman of VBDA and Rajnish Kumar, DG, Lions Club. The rally reached its terminal point Baug-E-Jamshed, where Bodhanwala addressed the participants.
At the Jamshedpur Blood Bank Century blood Donors were felicitated while certificates were also presented to the outgoing diploma holders of six-month Leadership Development Course and Recognizing the Teachers of the Course. S. P.
Trivedi, the first century donor (100 times donation) of Bihar and Jharkhand, along with other centurion donors such as Harbhajan Singh and Md. Haidar were awarded at the program. Those who have donated for more than 50 times were also rewarded, such as J. P. Mitra, Gouri Mukherjee and others.
The Teachers of the Diploma Course were also recognized. Among them were Dr. Matin from Dhanbad, Moushumi Das of SDSM, Subhashish Bhaduri, Arijit Sarkar, Sanjay Coudhury, and others.
Nalini Ramamurthy, secretary, Jamshedpur Blood Bank, Chandreswar Khan, vice-chairman, VBDA, Dr. Amit Mukhejee, Rajnish, DG Lions Club, Sunil Mukherjee. president, VBDA, Ashish Majumdar, general secretary, VBDA, and Dr. Minakshi, TMH, were present at the event.
