Jamshedpur, Sept 18: Two wheels in the engine rake of the Bhubaneswar- New Delhi Rajdhani Express (22823) derailed at loop line of platform No. 2 at Tatanagar Station on Friday. With the alertness of Train Driver Sardar Singh a big mishap was averted. As the front wheel of the engine derailed the driver pressed the brake and the train stopped.
The incident was reported around 3.50 pm when Assistant Driver Md. Azad was with the driver Singh. The engine of the train was removed and with the help of another engine the train departed for New Delhi from platform No. 3 of Tatanagar at 5.05 pm. Driver RN Tripathy and assistant driver NK Srivatsav took the train to the onward journey.
Area Railway Manager of Tatanagar, Vinit Gupta, said there was no immediate report of any passenger suffering injury or damage to the train in the incident.
Gupta said that railway authorities will likely order a probe into the mishap soon.
After the incident, Jamshedpur MP Bidhut Varan Mahato reached the Railway Station and obtained information about the incident. He said that with driverís alertness a big accident was avoided.
According to reports, New Delhi bound Rajdhani Express reached Tatanagar Station on time and while entering the platform No. 2 the front wheels of the engine derailed. As the driver felt a jerk he immediately pressed the emergency brake and stopped the train.
