Rain and thundershowers to batter Jharkhand till Oct 6, IMD issues orange alert

Mail News Service

Jamshedpur, Oct 3 : Jharkhand is bracing for a significant weather event as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a four-day weather alert from October 3 to 6, forecasting heavy rainfall, widespread thundershowers, and gusty wind across the state.

The adverse weather is attributed to a deep depression that has moved inland from the Bay of Bengal, impacting several districts.

Day-Wise Forecast

October 4: Rain intensity is expected to spread towards the northern, adjoining central, and north-eastern parts of the state. Thunderstorm and lightning activity will persist at many locations.

October 5: Isolated heavy showers may continue over north-eastern districts, while thunderstorms with gusty winds are expected in most parts of the state.

October 6: The system is likely to weaken gradually, but thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty winds may still occur at isolated places.

Alerts Issued

Orange Alert: Issued for five districts—Garhwa, Palamu, Latehar, Chatra, and Hazaribagh—indicating the possibility of heavy rainfall and associated hazards.

Yellow Alert: Issued for several other districts, including Lohardaga, Gumla, and Simdega, indicating the likelihood of moderate rainfall with the possibility of isolated heavy rainfall.

Impact on Agriculture

The surplus rainfall during the monsoon season has been beneficial for rabi crop sowing, as soil moisture levels are significantly higher than usual.

However, excessive rainfall in October could damage standing paddy crops in low-lying fields if proper drainage is not maintained.

Safety Precautions

Avoid Unnecessary Travel: Refrain from traveling during heavy downpours to minimize the risk of accidents and getting stranded.

Stay Indoors: Seek shelter indoors during thunderstorms and avoid open fields or tall structures.

Secure Loose Objects: Ensure that outdoor furniture, garbage bins, and other loose items are secured to prevent them from being blown away by gusty winds.

Stay Updated: Keep abreast of the latest weather updates from the IMD and local authorities.

Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to safeguard life and property during this period of adverse weather.
