Jamshedpur: In a major breakthrough under the ongoing manti-narcotics drive “Operation NARCOS,” the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) achieved significant success by arresting a suspected drug trafficker at Tatanagar Railway Station and seizing approximately 15 kilograms of illegal cannabis (ganja).
The joint operation, carried out by RPF Tatanagar and GRP Tatanagar, was conducted following a specific intelligence input as part of intensified efforts to crack down on narcotics trafficking within railway premises. Acting swiftly, the team launched a thorough surveillance and checking campaign at the station, during which a suspicious youth was intercepted and questioned. A search of his belongings led to the recovery of a substantial quantity of ganja concealed in his bag.
The arrested individual has been identified as Rahul Yadav (20), a resident of Bettiah in West Champaran district, Bihar. During preliminary interrogation, he reportedly confessed that he had transported the contraband from Sambalpur, Odisha, and was planning to deliver it to Bettiah before being apprehended by the authorities.
Officials said the seized narcotics weigh around 15 kilograms, with an estimated market value running into several lakh rupees. Investigators are now probing the broader trafficking network behind the operation, examining whether the accused is linked to a larger inter-state drug syndicate.
The operation was led by RPF ASI Balbir Prasad under the supervision of the Post Commander, RPF Tatanagar, and the Officer-in-Charge of GRP Tatanagar. Railway officials praised the alertness and prompt coordination of the joint team, calling the seizure a significant step in curbing drug trafficking through railway routes.
The accused has been handed over to the Railway Police Station, Tatanagar, where a case has been registered against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Authorities are now examining his mobile phone records, contacts, and possible links to other traffickers to trace the wider network.
Railway officials reaffirmed that “Operation NARCOS” will continue with full force to ensure passenger safety and keep railway premises free from crime and drug-related activities. They also appealed to the public to report any suspicious movements or activities to railway security agencies for immediate action.
