Railway police arrest four persons for stealing LED lights

Jamshedpur, Nov. 19: Railway police on Monday arrested four persons for stealing LED lights from a high-mast lamp from Tatanagar yard and for buying the stolen lights recently.Those arrested were identified as Rajiv Kumar alias Pappu (19), Suraj Kumar Prasad (26), Vishwakarma Kumar Sharma (30) and Pintu Kumar Singh (32).

Suraj and Pappu had stolen the LED lights from the railway yard. Pintu was arrested for buying the stolen lights through Sharma.

Railway Protection Force (RPF) official said that acting on a tip off they nabbed the culprit. Official of a private agency lodged a complaint that all the 12 LED lights of a high-mast lamp that it had fixed at one of the spot in Tatanagar yard are missing.

“According to FIR, the stolen bulbs were worth Rs 2.5 lakh. Ever since we received the complaint we had been trying to nab the culprits. On Sunday night, we got a tip off that the stolen LED lights might have been reached to a Parsudih-based light-decorator.

After receiving the information, we reached to the decorator’s house at Namotola and found those LED lamps at his godown and subsequently we arrested three more persons involved in the theft and sale of the stolen railway materials,” said Singh.

The RPF inspector said during the interrogation, they found that Suraj and Pappu who are residents of Loco Colony had stolen the LED lamps.

” As per our investigation after stoling the lights, Suraj had kept them at his house and later got them sold them. The thieves had sold all the 12 stolen lamps for Rs 15,000 only where as the total cost was about Rs 2.5 lakh,” pointed out the inspector. He said Pintu had been using the stolen lights for decorating the marriage ceremonies and other functions since the past four months.
