Raghubar-Saryu supporters clash in Jamshedpur, resort to stone pelting, fisticuffs, security forces deployed

Jamshedpur, Feb 11: The celebration of Pandit Dindayal Upadhyaya’s death anniversary at Raghubar Nagar in Burmamines witnessed unruly scenes as supporters of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Bhartiya Jan Morcha (BJM) clashed between themselves. 

The situation went out of control when stone-pelting between the supporters of two political outfits started. The brawl took place in the backdrop of blackening of plaques allegedly by the supporters of former Chief Minister Raghubar Das in rivalry with  the local legislator and BJM leader Saryu Roy in his assembly constituency on Tuesday.

According to sources, the supporters of Saryu Roy had assembled at Raghubar Nagar for celebrating the birth anniversary of Pandit Dindayal at about 10.30 am today, but sooner the programme started, a group of BJP supporters arrived at the scene and started creating ruckus in the programme.  The situation at Raghubar Nagar was tensed due to blackening of a plaque installed by Saryu Roy for initiating a project of laying flavor blocks at Raghubar Nagar two days ago, the supporters of Saryu Roy reacted, thus leading a clash between the supporters of two groups.  During the clash, the activists of the two political outfits had also indulged in stone-pelting.

As the clash broke out, a police party rushed to the spot and prevented the situation going out of control.

Amid the uproar, the BJM supporters went over the Burmamines police station for lodging FIR against the BJP activists.   Incidentally, the BJP activists also reached at the Burmamines police station and created ruckus on the police station premises, but the situation was brought under control after the police pacified the agitators.

OC, Burmamines police station, Raju Kumar confirmed that the supporters of BJP and the BJM had first clashed at Raghubar Nagar and had created commotion at the police station premises, but the situation was brought under control after they had convinced both the sides.

“We have deployed police forces at the location to ensure safety. Though the situation seems to have returned to normalcy due to our intervention, we are keeping a close eye on all those indulged in the fight.  Both the sides, BJP supporters and BJM supporters had turned up at the police station for lodging complaints against each other,” said the OC.
