NML organises training program on research methodology

Jamshedpur, Feb 11: CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML), Jamshedpur has been implementing CSIR Integrated Skill Initiative since 2017. The objectives of this initiative are to utilize CSIR knowledgebase and infrastructure for organizing training programs in various categories (industrial, professional, societal etc.) for contributing to national skill mission.

A 900-hour training program was organized by CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory, Jamshedpur on a virtual platform under the ‘CSIR Integrated Skill Initiative’ scheme of Government of India. This training will be imparted in two parts (400 hours Theory and 500 hours Hands on) and is aimed for graduate students in the fields of science, mathematics and engineering. The objective of this training program is to improve the competency level of these students as they will learn how to conduct and report their research work methodically, present papers in conferences and publish them in national and international journals.

Apart from the knowledge of research methodologies, this training is designed to give an insight to research ethics, the importance of proper communication while conducting the research work and also plagiarism software and their use.

The inaugural program of this training was organized on Tuesday with a video show on CSIR-NML’s glorious journey since its inception in 1950. The welcome address was delivered by
Dr. Indranil Chattoraj, Director, CSIR-NML. In his address, he talked about the importance of carrying out research the right way to establish the research findings through collaboration and also to learn and follow the formal structure of scientific writing.

The inaugural speech was delivered by Dr. Mita Tarafder, Head of KRIT Division of CSIR-NML. In her speech she mentioned about the contribution CSIR has been making with its PAN India presence with 37 laboratories. She said that the skill initiative was taken up by CSIR with an objective to utilize CSIR knowledge base to implement various training programs under national skill mission. She briefly discussed various training programs of CSIR-NML some of which are sponsored and semi-sponsored and also gave a brief idea of the facilities and infrastructure the laboratory has.  

The participants from various parts of the country joined this virtual program and introduced themselves after the inaugural speech was over. The technical session started with a presentation by Dr. Mita Tarafder on “Introduction on Research Methodology”.

This online inaugural program received very good response and was attended by more than 50 people having science and research background.
