Ranchi: The BJP in Jharkhand is undergoing a significant transformation with the re-entry of former Chief Minister Raghubar Das into active politics. This move is set to alter the internal power equation as the party prepares for organizational elections and the appointment of a new state president in February.
As the party focuses on its ongoing membership drive, Raghubar Das’s return adds a significant dimension to the leadership. His rejoining comes ahead of key elections within the party, including the election of the BJP legislative party leader. Current state president Babulal Marandi is expected to be appointed as the Leader of Opposition, maintaining tribal leadership within the party. Consequently, a new state president is likely to emerge from the OBC community, potentially giving Raghubar Das a prominent role.

Das, who served as both Chief Minister and National Vice President of the BJP, brings with him substantial influence. Though he may not be appointed the state president himself, his support is likely to help elevate one of his loyalists to the position. This could mark the beginning of a new era for the BJP in Jharkhand, as social equations and factional interests come into play.
The arrival of Raghubar Das means that four former chief ministers will now play active roles in the state’s politics. Alongside Babulal Marandi, Arjun Munda, and Champai Soren—who are from the tribal community—Raghubar Das represents the OBC demographic, further diversifying the leadership. This new alignment will give party workers more options for support, potentially leading to increased competition for prominent positions and more strategic alliances within the BJP.
Das’s involvement will not only alter the leadership structure but could also signal a shift in how the BJP approaches its organizational framework, especially with regard to caste representation and internal dynamics.
