Raghubar Das defies tradition: Joins BJP during Kharmas, sparks political buzz

Mail News Service

Ranchi: Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das has once again made headlines by rejoining active BJP politics during Kharmas, a period traditionally considered inauspicious for starting new ventures. This bold move has fueled speculation and discussions in political circles, highlighting Das’s unique approach to breaking myths and conventions.

In Jharkhand’s political landscape, Kharmas seems to hold a special place for Raghubar Das. Back in 2014, during the same period, Das was entrusted with the responsibility of leading the state as its Chief Minister after the BJP’s victory in the Assembly elections. Despite skepticism and chatter about the potential adverse consequences of taking the oath during Kharmas, Das not only broke the superstition but also made history by becoming the first Chief Minister in Jharkhand to complete a full five-year term.

“Traditions should guide us, not bind us. Progress and decisions cannot wait for auspicious timings,” Das reportedly said during an informal discussion, reflecting his pragmatic approach to leadership.

Das’s latest move has sparked conversations about his political resurgence and its timing. A senior BJP leader remarked, “Raghubar Das has always been a leader who charts his own path. His return during Kharmas sends a strong message that determination and vision triumph over superstition.”

A History of Breaking Barriers

This isn’t the first time Das has redefined norms. His appointment as Chief Minister in 2014 marked the first time the BJP chose a non-tribal leader for the state’s top post, a decision that was met with both praise and criticism. However, his tenure proved his mettle as an able administrator.

A Surprising Connection

Adding to the intrigue, Das recently paid a surprise visit to veteran Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader and former Chief Minister Shibu Soren on his birthday. This gesture has rekindled conversations about Das’s deep respect for Soren, with whom he shares a unique political history.

In the state’s first BJP-JMM coalition government, Soren served as Chief Minister while Das held the position of Deputy Chief Minister. “Shibu Soren’s ideas have always inspired me. Our political paths may differ, but my respect for him remains unwavering,” Das said during his visit.

As Raghubar Das re-enters active politics, his timing and actions reaffirm his reputation as a leader unafraid to challenge conventions, paving the way for what could be a significant chapter in Jharkhand’s political narrative.
