Raghubar calls for clean & pollution free Swarnarekha

Ranchi, August 13: Chief Minister Raghubar Das has requested the Union Govt. to get the state funded by international financing sources for completion of developing the sewer system in Ranchi municipal corporation area in order to keep the Swarnarekha River clean & pollution free as visualized under National River Conservation Scheme.

Underlining the need of conserving the Swarnarekha River & making it pollution free, the Chief Minister said that it is a long awaited demand of the people of the state which has to be fulfilled.

In a letter to Prakash Javadekar, Minister for Environment, Govt. of India informing that due to the increase in economic activities in the state capital, it has expanded unexpectedly affects the flow of the Swarnarekha, a very important river of Jharkhand.

He said that it is clear from the water quality report of Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Moreover, it affects the environment & the people living on its bank adversely.

Referring to the cognizance of the High Court of Jharkhand (Court on its motion v/s State of Jharkhand & others), he added that court has directed the State Govt. to conserve & clean the river.

It should be noted that the official sewerage & drainage of Ranchi fall into the Swarnarekha River. It has been proposed in DPR zone II, III & IV & the estimated amount for this scheme is Rs 1319(One thousand three hundred nineteen crore rupees only).

He told the Union Minister that the MoEF and Climate Change Ministry have been requested in the past to consider the above projects but no positive response has been received yet.

Das requested the Jawraker to take interest in it personally & deal with the issue as soon as possible.
