Ongoing railway infrastructure upgrades at the Puri railway station in Odisha have begun heavily impacting train schedules at Tatanagar, causing significant delays and widespread inconvenience for commuters.
On Monday, major long-distance trains arriving via the route lagged hours behind schedule. Among the worst affected were the Puri–Anand Vihar Purushottam Express and the Puri–Rishikesh Kalinga Utkal Express, both of which arrived at Tatanagar station significantly late.
The cascading delays have disrupted travel plans for hundreds of passengers bound for or traveling from states like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Odisha. Railway sources indicated that the ongoing yard expansion work at Puri has severely bottlenecked operations, forcing officials to reschedule departures or alter timings for trains heading toward West Bengal and other connecting routes.
Widespread Disruption
The scheduling crisis wasn’t just limited to the Odisha route. Commuters traveling the Mumbai line faced similar frustrations on Monday, as key trains—including the Gitanjali Express—also rolled into Tatanagar well past their scheduled arrival times.
Stranded passengers at Tatanagar voiced their frustrations over the lack of predictable timelines. “We understand that infrastructure development is necessary, but the sudden delays without timely updates make it incredibly hard to plan onwards journeys, especially with families,” said a passenger waiting at the platform.
Railway authorities have requested passengers to check live train running statuses before heading to the stations while work continues to expand and modernize the Puri station yard.
