Protest rally against DVC’s proposed hydel project unites community in defense of Lugu Mountain

Bermo: A powerful protest rally took place on Sunday in opposition to the proposed hydel project by DVC in Luguburu Ghanta Bari Dhorom Garh Lalapania. Following the rally, a multitude of participants gathered for the Mahjutan program. The event was presided over by committee chairman Babuli Soren and conducted by Surendra Tudu. The meeting featured speeches from key figures including Durgacharan Murmu, spokesperson for the tribal self-governance system, JMM district president Hiralal Manjhi, and committee members Lobin Murmu, Vishnu Kisku, Jitendra Hembram, Ato Baske, Jaiveer Hansda, along with JIP members Sunita Tudu and Panchanan Soren.

The resounding message from the gathering was a resolute stand against DVC’s proposed Hydel Pumped Storage Power Plant on Lugu Mountain. Lugu Baba Cave, situated within Lugu Mountain, holds immense significance as a center of faith and belief for the Santhali community, and efforts to harm it will not be tolerated. Lugu Mountain is a natural heritage site for the local people, and any alterations to the areas surrounding Lugu Baba Dham will be fiercely opposed.
