Jamshedpur, April 24: Members of the JEMCO Maidan Sangharsh Samiti (JMSS) held a protest rally at the Deputy Commissioner’s office against Tata Steel officials’ attempt to enclose the JEMCO Grounds in Telco. Despite a stay order issued by the Deputy Commissioner, Tata Steel’s UISL and Land Department teams ventured to enclose the grounds, only to retreat empty-handed in the face of strong opposition from residents.

Satish Kumar, a core member of the JMSS, emphasized that Tata Steel had been restrained by a stay order since January 12, prohibiting any action until the issue was resolved. The matter had also been brought to the attention of CM Champai Soren, who had assured the residents of providing the grounds.

Residents demanded intervention from the Deputy Commissioner to prevent Tata Steel from enclosing the JEMCO Grounds until a decision was reached. The Grounds serve as a vital space for recreation and exercise for local residents, including children from nearby settlements. Despite repeated attempts by Tata Steel to cordon off the area, residents continued to resist, asserting their right to utilize the grounds.
