Jamshedpur, June 6: In the court of ADJ-8 Pattadar, the prosecution completed Uttam Verma’s testimony on Thursday in the case related to stone pelting on police personnel and obstruction of government work during the 2017 mob lynching incident in Nagadih. Cross-examination is set to commence from Friday.
The incident, which occurred on the evening of May 18, 2017, resulted in the deaths of three persons on suspicion of child theft, with Ramsakhi Devi, the grandmother of one of the deceased, also passing away during treatment. Victims included Vikas Verma of Naya Bazar Jugsalai, Gautam Verma, and their companion Gangesh Gupta of Bagbera Garhabasa.
Upon the arrival of the police in response to the incident, an angry mob attacked the police jeep and resorted to stone pelting, resulting in serious injuries to police personnel. Subsequently, based on the statement of the then Bagbera police station in-charge Amish Hussain, a case was registered against 22 persons, including Mukhiya Rajaram Hansda, Village Head Bhishma Sardar, Doctor Mardi, Subhash Hansda, among others, for causing serious injuries, vandalism, and obstructing government work.
