Tata Steel felicitates Sahiyyas

, Jan 9: Tata Steel felicitated the Sahiyyas involved in project MANSI at a function held today at the Community Centre, Seraikela.

A total of 210 Sahiyyas were felicitated for their outstanding contribution in Project MANSI, aimed at reducing infant & maternal mortality rate, in Sreraikela-Kharswan district of Jharkhand. Since 2009, project MANSI has been operational in 167 villages of Seraikela block in Seraikela-Kharswan district.

Tata Steel, America India Foundation (AIF), Goverment of Jharkhand & a Maharashtra based NGO ‘Search’ are partners in this project.

Sunil Bhaskaran, Dy VP, Corporate Services, Tata Steel and Sangram Besra, DDC, Seraikela-Kharswan graced the occasion as Chief Guests. Mr. Besra, in his address to the gathering, praised the noble initiative MANSI, undertaken by Tata Steel Rural Development Society (TSRDS) while also lauded the role and contribution of sahiyyas in the project.

He further added that the experiences shared by the Sahiyyas were an eye opener for all and that the success achieved by a coordinated effort between corporate and government is inspiring. He concluded by thanking the Sahiyyas for their dedication.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Akai Minz, State Training Co-ordinator, Jharkhand Goverment said that the state needs to declare Seraikela as a ‘block of excellence’ for the success achieved by the Project MANSI. She also added that all Sahiyyas are to be thanked, especially for their untiring effort in making MANSI project successful and that now Seraikela can be termed as a model for Home Based New Born Care (HBNBC).

Biren Bhuta, Chief CSR, Tata Steel briefed about the Project MANSI and its achievements of the last four years. He thanked National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) for its guidance while expressed his gratitude to AIF and Government of Jharkhand for supporting the cause.

He specifically mentioned the contribution of ‘Search’ in successful continuation of MANSI while also expressed hope that with NHRM’s help, MANSI programme will be executed in newer areas and continue to serve the society in near future.

Earlier in the day, Mr. Sunil Bhaskaran, Dy VP, Corporate Services, Tata Steel along with Ms. Lata Krishnan, Chairperson, AIF, Pradeep Kashyap, Vice Chairman, AIF, Ms. Anjali Sharma, Board of Trustee, AIF, Mr. Ravi Kumar, CEO, AIF, Dr. Hemant, Country Director, AIF, Mr. Charu Johri, Programme Manager, AIF, Ms. Akai Minz, State Training Co-ordinator, Jharkhand Govt., Dr. S K Jha, ACMO, Seraikela-Kharsawan district, Dr. K K Sehgal, Dist, RCH, Seraikela-Kharsawan district, Mr. Arun Pandhi, Programme Manager, Sir Ratan Tata Trust and Mr. Biren Bhuta, Chief, CSR, Tata Steel, visited Pathanmara village to meet and interact with the Sahiyyas, who have done a creditable job of saving infants’ lives in Seraikela block as part of the MANSI project run by Tata Steel.
