Jamshedpur, Jan 9: The 2nd Environment Operating Committee meeting for Iron and Steel Companies, organised by the Environment Management department of Tata Steel, concluded today at Beldih Club, Jamshedpur. The theme for this year�s meeting was �Zero Waste Water Discharge.�
Environment experts from the Iron and steel Companies including S.M.R. Prasad from JSW, Dr Kishore Chenna from RINL, B S Guru from JSPL, Vijay Aher from ESSAR steel, P B Bhowmick from Durgapur Steel Plant, Dr S.C. Jain from Mecon, Shubhanand Mukesh, Head Environment, Tata Steel, Manish Vidya from Tata Sustainability Group, S C Patnaik from Rourkela Steel Plant among others shared with the audience, their perspectives on the best practices and challenges towards achieving Zero Waste Water Discharge.
Technology partners such as Advent, GE and Thermax too shared their perspectives on the technology involved in the context.
B K Das, Dy VP CSI Tata Steel chaired the concluding session. It was discussed and decided that a combined note along with the proceedings of the meeting will be put up to the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) and Central Pollution Control Board to streamline the policy and notify standards for specific water consumption and zero waste water discharge for all Iron and Steel Companies in India.
It was also announced that next year, the 3rd Environment Operating Committee will be hosted by JSW, Bellary on the theme �Air Emissions.�
