Project Anveshan: Jamshedpur school students to tour leading industries

Jamshedpur: In a bid to broaden the horizons of government school students, the administration will send Government school students on a tour to leading industries. The Deputy Commissioner  Ananya Mittal convened a detailed planning session on Wednesday in the Collectorate Auditorium to finalize logistics for Project Anveshana 2.0, the second phase of the exposure-visit initiative.

Deputy Development Commissioner  Aniket Sachan, along with representatives from leading private companies and training institutions, participated in discussions that laid out the outline for a one-day educational tour scheduled for May 8.

Building on the success of the first phase—wherein 11th-grade students from 15 schools toured local industries—Project Anveshana 2.0 will now include students from grades 9 through 12 across 25 government schools in East Singhbhum. During the meeting, officials reviewed transportation schedules, meal arrangements, safety protocols for the summer heat, and detailed itineraries for each participating group.

Under the revamped program, students will visit a diverse selection of establishments designed to expose them to multiple career paths and real-world applications of classroom learning. The itinerary features a stop at the JRD Tata Sports Complex to witness world-class athletic facilities and understand the role of physical fitness and teamwork, a visit to the Tata Motors plant to observe commercial vehicle manufacturing processes, and a session at CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML) to explore the frontiers of material science research. Further stops include the Russi Modi Centre of Excellence, where cutting-edge practices in engineering and technology are showcased, the JN Tata Vocational Training Institute and NTTF, which specialize in advanced technical education, and Tata Steel Utilities and Infrastructure Services, to demonstrate sustainable urban operations. The program also incorporates a guided tour of the IDTR-Cummins engine assembly lines and a field trip to the local Zoological Park to highlight wildlife conservation and biodiversity protection.

The management of the initiative has mapped out precise schedules to ensure each group of students gains maximum value. For instance, at the sports complex, they will participate in mini-clinics on discipline and accuracy, at manufacturing plants, they will engage in interactive demonstrations of assembly-line robotics, and at research centers, they will attend short lectures by scientists on future job trends in metallurgy and allied sectors.

The 25 selected schools hail from across the district’s blocks—ranging from Khandamuda Plus Two High School and Parulia High School in Baharagora, to Upgraded High School Gudabandha in Gudabandha block, and Tata Workers Union High School Kadma in Jamshedpur itself. Others include institutions in Bodam, Chakulia, Dhalbhumgarh, Ghatsila, Musabani, Patamda, Potka, and Sangram, ensuring broad geographic representation and equal opportunity for students in remote and urban settings alike.

Mittal emphasized that the exposure visits are designed not only to spark curiosity but also to bridge the gap between academic theory and workplace practice. “When students see firsthand how products are made, how research labs operate, and how sustainable city services are managed, they return to their classrooms with renewed motivation and clearer visions of possible careers,” she noted.

As logistical preparations enter the final phase, school principals and teachers are coordinating student assemblies, health check-ups, and parental consent forms. The district administration has also arranged for medical teams and mobile first-aid units to accompany each convoy of buses. With these precautionary measures in place, Project Anveshana 2.0 is poised to offer hundreds of adolescents an eye-opening glimpse into the professions that shape their community and the technologies that drive the modern economy.
