Jamshedpur, June 13 : With the declaration of ISC, CBSE and Jharkhand intermediate results, the race for admissions at colleges of Kolhan University have started.
Several colleges like Jamshedpur Women�s College, Jamshedpur Co-operative College, Jamshedpur Worker�s College, Graduate School College for Women, LBSM College and Abdul Bari Memorial College are geared up for admissions, issuing guidelines for applicants.
Jamshedpur Women’s College, Bistupur, is offering streams like Arts, Science, commerce, along with course on BBA, biotechnology, BCA. The deadline for application is June 30. Officials of the college informed that the cut off is 60 percent for honours subjects in the first list.
Karim City College, Sakchi apart from Arts Science, Commerce, offers courses in Mass Communication, B.Sc (IT), BCA. The application deadline is June 20. The cut off is 55 per cent for B.Sc and B.Com direct admission while 50 per cent is for Arts. While at Jamshedpur Co-operative College, C.H. Area application deadline is June 22.
“The admission process has started and we plan to introduce several innovative programmes apart from academics. We will rope in guest faculty in every department,” said Dr. S.S. Razi, principal, Jamshedpur Co-operative College.
Graduate School College for Women, Sakchi is offering admissions in Arts, Science, Commerce, BCA, BBA, B.Sc (IT). The application deadline is June 22.
According to officials of Jamshedpur Workers� College, students are opting for job-oriented courses, which could land them plum jobs. �Since corporate sector is more lucrative than most conventional job providers, MBA has become the most sought-after course,� he said.
He said that the Worker�s College has added two-year course of MBA in its curriculum. The craze for MBA has increased manifold over the years and this year a sizable number of students had applied for the course.
Karim City College, another city-based premier college, has number of professional courses in store like Mass Communication and Video Production, Informational Technology, Computer Application etc.
�Yes we are receiving number of queries from students who are keen to take admissions in vocation courses. There is a common perception among students that conventional courses cannot land them a job immediately. This has also led to a rush in the vocational field,� said a professor.
Although science is preferred by many students, commerce too is not far as students have understood the scope of the subject now.
As many students want to pursue MBA after graduation, commerce also is preferred by most of the students. Among Arts, English, Political Science and Economics remains the best.
