President Ramnath Kovind to release stamp on Jamshedpur

Company working on Greater Jamshedpur project: Tata Steel MD

Jamshedpur, Jan. 1: Tata Steel has invited President Ramnath Kovind to release stamp on Jamshedpur. The year 2019 marks 100 years of naming of the steel city Jamshedpur.

CEO and managing director of Tata Steel T.V. Narendran extended his warm wishes to the people after a formal cake cutting ceremony to usher in 2019 at the lawns of Centre for Excellence on Tuesday.

“2019 is a significant year as on January 2 steel city will complete 100 years of getting its name as Jamshedpur. Moreover, the Tata Workers’ Union will also celebrate its centenary this year,” said Narendran.


Steel city was renamed Jamshedpur from Sakchi in the year 1919. It got the name from its late founder Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata.

He informed to mark occasion Tata Steel has written a letter to the President of India Ramnath Kovind inviting the latter in Jamshedpur for releasing a postage stamp to mark the occasion.

Narendran said that the corporate major was committed to develop Jamshedpur as one of the best industrial towns. Describing steel city has a ‘City of institutions’ he said that they always makes efforts to strike a balance between corporates and institutions.

He also cited examples of community participation which makes the steel city an attractive, vibrant and a better place to live in. They will continue to work on development projects.

On the sidelines of the cake cutting function Narendran said that they are also working on smart city and Greater Jamshedpur project.

Referring to a query Narendran said that the production of hot metal at the Jamshedpur plant has reached 11 MTPA from the earlier 10 MTPA and that they are exploring the pros and cons of further expansion.
