Jagannath Temple to Boost Youth Development in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur: While the upcoming Shri Jagannath Temple on Marine Drive will stand as a monumental feat of architecture, its primary mission is to serve as a Spiritual and Personality Development Centre for the youth. The project aims to reconnect the younger generation with ethical values, discipline, and moral resilience through structured educational programs.

Empowering the Next Generation

Trust Chairman S.K. Behera emphasized that the centre will go beyond traditional worship. The facility plans to host students from educational institutions within a 200 to 250 km radius for immersive 15-to-25-day sessions.

These residential programs will focus on:

  • Values & Ethics: Teaching the essence of the Bhagavad Gita and Bhagavatam.
  • Mental Resilience: Building self-confidence and courage to face modern life challenges.
  • Discipline: Fostering a sense of national and social responsibility.

President Droupadi Murmu to Lay Foundation Stone

On February 26, 2026, President Droupadi Murmu will officially lay the foundation stone for this ambitious project. The event marks a historic shift in Jamshedpur’s cultural landscape, positioning the “Steel City” as a significant hub for spiritual tourism and youth character building.

The Grand Architecture: A Replica of Puri

The Shri Jagannath Spiritual and Culture Charitable Centre Trust is developing the project on a 2.5-acre plot with a total investment of ₹100 crore.

  • The Main Temple (1.5 Acres): Designed as a majestic replica of the world-famous Puri Jagannath Temple. It will house the deities Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra.
  • The Spiritual Wing (1 Acre): Dedicated entirely to the personality development of the youth and cultural activities.
  • Timeline: The Spiritual Centre will be completed in two years, followed by the main temple in four years.

VVIP Presence and Schedule

The ceremony is organized in collaboration with the Utkal Association. Joining the President as distinguished guests are:

  • Santosh Gangwar, Governor of Jharkhand
  • Hemant Soren, Chief Minister of Jharkhand
  • Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister

President’s Itinerary:

  • 12:20 PM: Arrival at the venue on Marine Drive.
  • 12:30 PM: Foundation stone laying and Vedic prayers.
  • 12:45 PM: Address to the gathering of 1,200 invited guests.
  • 01:20 PM: Departure.
