President Droupadi Murmu to perform rituals at Karandih Jaherthan in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur: Known for her incredible journey from Rairangpur to Raisina Hills, Droupadi Murmu, the first tribal President, will perform rituals at Karandih Jaherthan, under the Parsudih police station area, during her visit to Jamshedpur on December 29.

She will participate in the centenary celebrations of the Olchiki script, jointly organized by the Jaherthan Committee and the All India Santali Writers Association. In view of her visit, the administration has beefed up the security of the area. The administration has also launched a cleanliness drive, removing encroachments across Karandih.

“Jaherthan is an important place of worship for the tribals. We are really excited to witness our President performing rituals, she is known for her tribal sentiments. The administration is taking special care of the cleanliness and security of the area. We are making sure that things are in place,” said General Secretary, All India Santali Writers Association, Ravindra Nath Murmu.

Soon after arriving at Sonari airport, she will be traveling by road to Jaherthan in Karandih, which is situated about 15km from the airport, on the outskirts of the city. Murmu will be attending a seminar at the Jaherthan to mark the centenary year of the Ol Chiki script. Murmu will return to Circuit House in Sonari and then attend the 15th convocation ceremony of the National Institute of Technology in Adityapur.

This marks the President’s first visit to the Karandih Panchayat area, prompting the administration to initiate intensive security and logistical preparations. At the concluding program, President Murmu will honour notable Santali writers and share her thoughts on the growth and preservation of the Santali language and culture. Organizers have clarified that entry to the event will be through registration only, and the audience capacity will be limited due to security and protocol requirements.
