Jamshedpur, June 26: As court proceedings are being conducted in the afternoon, the scorching heat of June is causing trouble to the litigants. For the past three days this trouble has been compounded by power cuts in the District Civil Court complex. Due to power cuts, the judiciary is conducting proceedings using mobile lights, affecting court operations. Advocate Sudhir Kumar Pappu pointed out that the power cuts had been causing difficulties. On Wednesday, a witness had come from Durgapur, but the testimony could not be recorded due to the power cut.

Advocate Sudhir Kumar Pappu questioned that as per High Court’s order when courts in all 23 districts were operating in the morning, then why was Jamshedpur Court in East Singhbhum an exception. According to Advocate Sudhir Kumar Pappu due to the absence of a statutory body for the Bar Association, this decision was made by the district court. He stated that at least the lawyers should have been consulted if the working hours had to be changed to daytime. The court’s working hours were changed on Monday and power cuts started the same day. Lawyers earn their fees only when they work on litigants’ cases, they did not receive fixed or regular salaries. If a litigant’s work was affected, it naturally impacted the legal profession.

Advocate Sudhir Kumar Pappu emphasized that to ensure uninterrupted power supply in the court building, there was a need for a generator set. He suggested that if power cuts were due to maintenance, the work could be done after court hours. A large number of lawyers whose work had been affected by the power cuts, were supporting the questions raised by Sudhir Kumar Pappu.
