Jadugora: A 25 year-old youth, identified as Chhaku Ram Murmu, resident of Marchagora, died in a road accident on the Potka-Kalikapur main road on Saturday. Sources said the mishap occurred around 11 am when a speeding pick-up van knocked down the victim. Murmu was returning home on his motorcycle all the way from Galudih. He was critically injured in the mishap. He succumbed to injuries on the spot.
Irked over the incident, hundreds of villagers blocked the main road for several hours while demanding Rs 5 lakh and a government job in compensation for the next of kin of the deceased. Local police officials tried to pacify the agitators, but failed to remove the jam till afternoon.
Police sent the body of the deceased to MGM Medical College for post-mortem examination. The officer in-charge of Potka PS Arvind Yadav said the killer van had been seized. An FIR has been lodged against the errant driver, he said.
