Jamshedpur: Potka MLA Menka Sardar demanded official language status for Bhumij on Friday. She handed over a memorandum to Chief Minister Raghubar Das today in this regard. She said the state government had recently accorded second state language status to Bhojpuri, Magahi, Angika and Maithily. She said a sizeable section of people in Kolhan speak Bhumij language. She said many Bhumij leaders such as Raghunath Singh, Jagannath Singh and Ganga Narayan Singh had sacrificed their lives to save the language, culture and traditions of Bhumij people. She said the government should take up the demand and fulfil it as soon as possible.
