Jamshedpur, Jan 3: West Jamshedpur MLA Saryu Roy expressed strong dissatisfaction with the sanitation system in Mango Municipal Corporation, calling it “highly inadequate.” According to him, sanitation contractors are failing to provide the required number of workers, resulting in improper cleaning of neighborhoods.

On Saturday morning, MLA Roy conducted a surprise inspection from 7:30 AM to 9:30 AM across Dimna Road, Daiguttu, and Kunwar Basti, observing the presence and performance of sanitation staff. He noted that contractors supplied far fewer workers than mandated in their tenders. In some areas, only half the required workforce was present—for instance, where 35 workers were needed, only 20 showed up, and where 40 were required, even 25 were unavailable.

During the inspection, municipal sanitation officers and contractor supervisors were present. Roy was informed of irregularities in PF and ESI contributions for workers. While some workers were paid through bank accounts, most reported receiving cash payments. The MLA also highlighted that workers were often diverted to the Cube Company, responsible for door-to-door waste collection, indicating mismanagement and possible concealment of irregularities by the municipal corporation.

Roy raised questions about contractor appointments, notices issued for violations, and deductions made for non-compliance. He warned that lack of transparency might indicate the corporation prioritizing political interests over public rights. Roy said he would discuss the matter with the Deputy Municipal Commissioner, ensuring full compliance with tender conditions. He also demanded a review of the Cube Company’s payments to verify any undue financial advantage.

Officials and local representatives accompanying Roy included Pappu Singh, Pintu Singh, Santosh Bhagat, Praveen Singh, Lalu Gaud, Vikas Sahni, Santosh Chauhan, Vinay Kumar, Ravi Godai, Jaiprakash Nirala, Manoj Gupta, Tuntun Singh, Bala Prasad, Sanjay Pradhan, and Sanjay Singh
