Police solve Jamshedpur’s Tapan Das murder case, arrest his wife, two others

Land dealer was strangulated by the three accused: SSP

Jamshedpur, Jan 19: City police Saturday cracked the mystery shrouding the murder of land dealer Tapan Das of Govindpur by arresting his wife Shweta Das and two others for committing the heinous crime.

SSP Anoop Birtharay said Tapan Das, whose body was found on the roadside in Barabanki under MGM PS area a few days back, was killed by Shweta Das with the help of her alleged paramour Sumit Singh and one Sonu. The three accused strangulated Tapan Das to death and later dumped his body at an abandoned place in Barabanki. After killing Tapan Das, the accused persons put his body in a fridge in a bid to avoid raising suspicion in anyone�s mind. The body was thrown on the roadside the next day, said the SSP.

The SSP said Tapan and his wife often quarreled with each other. On the day of murder too, Tapan had a heated debate with his wife. The latter informed Sumit Singh about it and sought his help to eliminate him, said the SSP.

Police had recovered the body of the 34 year old land dealer six days after his mysterious disappearance. Tapan�s wife told police he was missing since 12th January. The body recovered by police was decomposed beyond recognition. Deep wounds were found on the head of the trader.

Police had lodged an FIR on the complaint of Shweta Das. For the last three years, Tapan had shifted to Shamsher Apartment in Telco. On 12th January last, he spoke to someone on his mobile phone around 8 pm and got down from his apartment. Later he returned home and took out Rs 1 lakh cash from the safe and went away with someone on a bike. After 9 pm, his phone got switched off. Since then, he went missing.
