Jamshedpur, May 9 : Police on Monday nabbed a thief and recovered Rs 15,000 and a stolen ATM card from at Vidyapati Nagar under Govindpur police station area. The 25-year-old criminal was arrested from his house Identified as Suraj Kumar (25), had stolen a vanity bag of a woman from the window of her house at LIG Colony in Govindpur.
Deputy superintendent of police (city) Animesh Nathani said that the vanity bag belonged Laxmi Bhaskar, wife of Jimmy Bhaskar.
“We made efforts to nab the culprit and finally succeeded. The bag contained an ATM card of Bank of India and unfortunately the pin code of the ATM scribbled on a piece of paper. The accused had withdrawn Rs 18,000 from the ATM at the dawn same day. Jimmi had lodged an FIR with the Govindpur thana on April 7 itself,” said the senior police officer.
Nathani said the officer-in-charge, Govindpur thana Rajiv Ranjan had made the management of Bank of India’s main branch in Bistupur to derive the ATM kiosk from which Rs 18,000 cash was withdrawan.
” The bank management detected that the ATM kiosk in question was located at Barigora in Govindpur.
After this, the police went over to the said ATM kiosk and took out the CCTV footage. On the CCTV footage there was the image of a 25-year-old youth withdrawing cash.
Subsequently, the police derived the records of all the thieves and snatchers active in Govindpur thana and finally found Suraj’s image resembling with that of the youth in the footage.
As Suraj had already been sent to jail in a theft case earlier, the police contacted at his address and picked up him for questioning. During interrogation, Suraj confessed his crime,” narrated the city DSP.
