Jamshedpur, June 2: After a tantrik sacrificed a six-month-old baby, Seraikela-Kharsawan police have on Friday launched a hunt for tracing the six-month-old infant’s body. Two persons including a `tantrik’ in Tiruldih under Chandil sub-division of the district have been arrested.
The victim who was daughter of Subhash Gope of Chaura village in Tiruldih was missing from her mother’s lap in sleep in the night of May 26. Concerned about her child, the next morning Subhas had lodged an FIR with the Tiruldih thana against unknown, leading the police to start a search operation.
The police launched search for the child’s body after a blood-stained chopper was recovered from the house of one of the accused Bhadoi Kalindi at Tiruldih village on Thursday evening.
Sub-divisional police officer, Chandil, Sandeep Bhagat said that they are investigating the gruesome incident. They have already arrested two persons, Karmo Kalindi (40) and Bhadoi Kalind (35) in connection with the lifting of the six-month-old girl child from Chaura village on May 26.
” During probe both the accused confessed that they have `sacrificed’ the child at a cremation ground on the bank of Subernarekha river along Tiruldih the same night she was stolen. Karmo had stolen the child from Parvati’s lap in the night and had handed it over to Bhadoi who `sacrificed’ her as his wife had not conceived despite eight years of her marriage,” said the SDPO.
“We have not found the body yet. We have, therefore, begun a search for the body in Tiruldih and also at the adjoining Purulia district,” said the SDPO.
Gope’s wife Parvati had expressed her doubt on a saint, Karmo Kalindi, whom the police had caught from Bagmundih police station area in Purulia district on May 29. Initially, Karmo who claimed himself to be a Sadhu tried to mislead the police, but later on Thursday he gave in and divulged that he had stolen the child and had given to Bhadoi for the sacrifice.
