Jamshedpur, August 22: Jamshedpur Police on Monday launched a crackdown against stunt riding and speeding at various locations of the city.
Sakchi, Bistupur, Jugsalai and Mango saw the most violators. Strict action was taken against boys performing stunts on motorcycles and crossing the speed limit. “There are too many accidents involving young men who fall off their bikes while performing stunts and lives are lost. Senior police officer said often bystanders ended up getting hurt in such accidents”.
“In order to bring a sense of safety among the two wheelers, Police has launched a special drive against visible traffic violations,” police said.
He said the crackdown had been launched in view of rise of accidents, as hundreds of young men in the city remove silencers from their motorcycles and drive the vehicles at high speeds. He said most accidents involving stunt riding occurred on main and busy roads.
Police said strict action would be taken in case of violation. The Traffic police will play an active role in the campaign.
Police said two wheeler riders who are not wearing crash helmet or are indulging in double pillion riding are being challenged and their bikes seized.
“We are also seizing the bikes of those who indulge in doing stunts or rash and negligent driving.
On day 1 of the drive several two wheelers were seized in different offences like not wearing crash helmet, indulging in double pillion riding, plying without documents and stunt or rash and negligent driving,” the police said.
The police said the objective of the drive is to deter such violators from rash driving and triple riding.
