Police investigate Muthoot loot incident, 467 packets of gold ornaments stolen

Jamshedpur : The police are investigating the incident of loot in which ornaments were in all 467 packets of gold ornaments out of 2,100 were found missing from the Mango branch of Muthoot Finance. It may be mentioned that a gang of six armed criminals had barged in on Monday aftrnoon.

A five-member team of auditors has arrived here from Muthoot Finance’s regional office in Bhubaneshwar to verify the stock of gold ornaments. Though officials are tight lipped but as per their information 467 packets of gold ornaments out of 2,100 have been stolen.

Circle inspector of Pardih, Satyendra Prasad was present during the verification of the packets. He said that though the missing packets have been detected but the exact quantity of the gold and its value are being ascertained by the team of auditors. Some packets contained small quantity of gold ornaments like 10 grams while the others were of more than 200 grams.

The Mango branch of the private finance company remained closed today. Several anxious customers including women had turned up at the office to know about the fate of their gold ornaments which they had mortgaged to the finance company.

Meanwhile, Jamshedpur police with the help of their counterparts in Bokaro nabbed the driver of a pic-up van identified as Parikshit Mahto from Chandankyari area in Bokaro, which the robbers had used in the gold heist.
