Police inching closer to nab Akhilesh Singh, arrest another key associate


Jamshedpur : Police is moving head to nab don Akhilesh Singh. Several of his key associates have been arrested. Police are busy grilling them to reach out to him. The police have arrested a key associate of the gangster from Golmurithana area thismorning.

The arrested criminal, Jasbir Singh (44) who is a resident of Birsanagar Zone No VII used to collect extortion money as well as commission from scrap-iron dealers for the gangster. The police have recovered a loaded pistol from his possession while making the arrest.

Revealing about the breakthrough, superintendent of police (city) Prashant Anand said that Jasbir was wanted in connection with a case of criminal conspiracy, extortion and Arms Act registered with the Golmuri thana last year was nabbed by a team of police from Sabarmati Chowk on Kadani road in Golmuri.

Son of Chandragupt Singh, former general secretary of Jhakhand Police Association, Akhilesh set up a network extortionists and shooters, which was spread well across Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.

Sources in the underworld revealed that the fugitive has amassed crores or rupees by perpetuating the criminal activities, which was focused on the `extortion’ from the businessmen and traders, and even the corporate houses. He used to run his `business’ through a syndicate of criminals which has an effective strength of over 100 members. He has even invested the money earned from the extortions in real estate business in Jamshedpur and several other cities in Jharkhand and Bihar.

Akhilesh is accused in more than two dozen cases of grievous crime. The prominent cases in which he was wanted, include murder of shoe baron AshishDey, murder of Tata Steel security inspector Jairam Singh, murder of gangster Paramjeet Singh inside Ghaghidih Central Jail, the jailer Uma ShankerPandey murder case in which he has already been sentenced to life imprisonment and kidnapping and murder of mobile merchant Om PrakasKabra.

The 34-year-old don stepped into the crime world by abducting the merchant Om PrakashKabra on July 21, 2001. After his name figured in the Kabra abduction case, he had surrendered in the court on August 6, 2001. He fled the judicial custody on February 18, 2002. He was arrested from Varanasi on October 7, 2004.

Talking to the newsmen, the City SP, said during the interrogation,Jasbir has spilled beans about how the gangster earns money from the scrap-dealers and about the persons who extend moral support to the gangster in the city.

Anand said that Jasbir was accused in as many as six criminal cases.

He said in one of the cases registered with the Bistupurthana in 2004, Jasbir was convicted and was sentenced seven years rigorous imprisonment.

He said after the pronouncement of the judgement, the convict had gone on an appeal with the Jharkhand High Court, and got acquital.
