Police foil crime plan, arrest three criminals with arms

Jamshedpur: Police here on Friday claimed to have foiled a major crime plan by arresting three alleged members of a gang. They confiscated two country-made guns along with four live cartridges, two empty pellets, four mobile phones and a motorcycle from the possession of those arrested.

Those arrested were identified as Chunnu Pareya, Madho Lohar and Sagen Manjhi alias Doman Hansda. The first two are residents of Dumaria while the last of them is a resident of Dumaria.

The senior superintendent of police (SSP) of East Singhbhum Anup T Mathew said the accused persons were nabbed by a police team set up to crack down on them following a tip-off about their plans to carry out a major crime in the locality.

�We had information about the accused persons trying to commit some major crime. A special team was formed to arrest them and foil their plan. When the team reached Kasiabera under Gudabandha police station area, the accused persons opened fire on the cops. When police team returned fire in self defence, the accused persons tried to escape but were caught soon,� said the SSP.

The SSP said that a cash reward of Rs 50,000 had been announced against Chunnu Pareya by the police department. A number of criminal cases have been registered against Pareya and his accomplices in different police stations of Jamshedpur and Odisha, he said.

The SSP said a search was on to trace other associates of the gang members. He said the accused persons had a criminal history and that the city police had long been searching for them.
