Jamshedpur, July 8: The Seraikela-Kharsawan police have decided to go for a polygraph and brain-mapping tests on Shanbabu Mukhi murder case main accused Santosh Thapa.
The police will opt for this scientific method of investigation to ascertain the role of Thapa in the murder only after they fail to make the main accused confess his crime in the ongoing police remand ends.
Seraikela-Kharsawan superintendent of police, Indrajeet Mahatha said that Thapa (35), who is now in a five-day police remand since Tuesday, has not revealed everything about the murder.
“We are grilling the Thapa. Though he has confessed to have got Shanbabu’s murder executed through contract killers, but he has not divulged anything about the role of two city-based builders behind the murder as the shooter Chhotu Ram had revealed to the police and also the victim’s widow Ritika Mukhi had alleged in the FIR.
We will go for a brain mapping and polygraph test on Thapa if he does not reveal the role of the builders in the murder,” said Mahatha.
The SP said that on Friday that they will bring Chhotu Ram from Seraikela divisional jail to the Adityapur police station for a face-to-face interrogation with Thapa. He said during cross-interrogation they expect some positive results.
Santosh Thapa, the main accused in the Congress activist Buddeshwar Mukhi better known as Shanbabu murder case in Adityapur, surrendered before the chief judicial magistrate in Seraikela on Tuesday.
Thapa (35), who is a resident of Dhirajganj in Adityapur, is said to be the mastermind behind the Congress activist’s murder and was absconding ever since the murder was committed on June 15.
Shanbabu (50), a resident of Dhirajganj in Adityapur, was shot dead while he was on a walk at the Adityapur toll bridge on June 15. The police had registered a case of murder and conspiracy against nine persons, including Thapa and the businessman and his brother on an FIR lodged by Ritika Mukhi, the widow of Shanbabu.
The police have already arrested six persons involved in the case so far. Those arrested in connection with the case are Bablu Yadav, Gautam Lohar, Chhotu Ram, Ashish Gorai, Pawan Lohar and Arjun Gorai alias Gora.
The police had also recovered a 7.65 mm pistol from Chhotu Ram, who has confessed to have shot Shanbabu.
