“We were looking for him as he was wanted in connection with a case of manhandling with officials of a special police team, set up for checking vehicles in view of the Lok Sabha election, at Jadugora on April 18. He was in an SUV and when asked by the police team, he not only manhandled with the team officials but had also fled the spot with the SUV without letting his vehicle to be checked,” said Ranjan.
The Jadugora OC said that the police had raided his house and other places in search of Babulal, but finally he was found loitering at the Dhalbhumgarh market this morning at about 8 am.
Babulal’s father Champai Soren who is also legislator from Seraikela assembly seat is the alliance candidate for the Jamshedpur Lok Sabha seat. The arresting has led to major protest from JMM camp.
“It is politically motivated. The police could have arrested Babulal after the polling is over, but they arrested him in the first hour of the polling at the Jamshedpur Lok Sabha constituency,” said a JMM leader. He said that the move is aimed to gain moral support for the BJP candidate.
