Jamshedpur : District police arrested a dreaded criminal Harish Singh from Sakchi on Thursday night.
Harish belongs to Bhojpur district of Bihar and was caught while he was trying to intimidate contractors for fixing his percentage in the contract jobs offered to the successful contractors at the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) during a tender process by the civic body,last evening.
The police recovered a loaded revolver from the arrested goon, who is close associate of the gangster Akhilesh Singh.
Senior superintendent of police, Amol V Homkar said that Harish and his four associates had been threatening the contractors who had gathered for the JNAC tender since the afternoon. The civic body was to process the tender for different jobs worth over Rs 12 crores.
Homkar said Harish along with his associates was threatening one after another contractors to pay a sizable percentage if the tender is bagged by them.
Homkar said the accused was demanding the contractors to pay 10 percent of the contract amount and threatened with the dire consequence if failed to oblige.
After the arrest of Harish, he was brought to the Sakchi police station where he was interrogated. During the interrogation, the accused has divulged the names of his four associates who were alongwith him at the JNAC office, and also his link with the gangster Akhilesh Singh.
In this connection, the police have registered a case under Section of 25 (B) of the Arms Act against Harish Singh before sending him to the judicial custody today.
