Train Will Link Industrial Hubs

Podanur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the flagship Podanur-Dhanbad Amrit Bharat Express from Tiruchirappalli on Wednesday. This new weekly service directly connects South India’s industrial centers with the coal and mineral regions of Eastern India.

Connecting the Industrial Corridor

The train will depart Podanur Junction every Saturday morning and arrive in Dhanbad on Monday morning. The return journey from Dhanbad begins every Monday. This vital route links four major states—Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Jharkhand—with key stops including:

• Salem

• Renigunta

• Vijayawada

• Jharsuguda

• Ranchi

• Bokaro Steel City

A Major Win for Migrant Workers

The new service specifically targets the thousands of migrant workers in the Coimbatore and Tiruppur textile hubs. Previously, these workers faced multiple transfers and grueling travel times. Now, they have a direct, affordable, and comfortable route to their homes in Jharkhand and Odisha.

Modern Features and Enhanced Safety

Panna Lal, DRM of the Salem Division, highlighted the train’s advanced technology during an interaction with IANS. The Amrit Bharat Express features LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch) coaches, which offer significant upgrades over older models:

• Higher Speeds: Capable of reaching up to 160 km/h.

• Enhanced Safety: Modern stainless-steel design with fire detection and CCTV.

• Passenger Comfort: Cushioned seating in unreserved coaches and improved ventilation.

• Smart Tech: Charging sockets at every seat and direct emergency communication with the crew.

Boosting Economic Connectivity

This launch belongs to the broader Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, a national initiative to modernize railway infrastructure. By providing a non-AC, long-distance option at affordable fares, the government aims to boost social and economic connectivity between South and Southeast India.
